You can’t tell me ANYTHING! This is the best month of the year, and I want to shout it from the rooftops. While everyone is busy fixated on Valentine’s Day, I’m over here wanting to scream! Don’t get me wrong—I love love… BUT IT’S MY BIRTHDAY MONTH! I’m 18 now, so make some noise, y’all!
This month’s mission was to make it to 18, and I did that… AND MORE!
Starter Locs
After years of plotting, I finally took the plunge and got starter locs! This decision feels particularly special to me as I step into adulthood. My relationship with my natural hair has been quite the rollercoaster—sometimes frustrating and often lazy. I spent countless hours and contemplating styles and sizes on Pinterest, gathering inspiration and figuring out the look I wanted to achieve. Now that I’ve taken this step, I’m excited to see how this journey unfolds and where it leads me.

Mariah the Scientist
One of the highlights of my month was attending a concert by Mariah the Scientist. I must admit, she’s not my absolute fave, but her performance was incredible! I found myself screaming at the top of my lungs from the higher seating level, completely lost in the music. The weekend was even more special as I got to meet Ryan Trey, who opened for her. He was so chill and definitely made the concert more memorable.

Student Life
School has been a whirlwind of math, chemistry, and physics lately! Some days, it feels like all the numbers are just flying around my head. Thankfully, I’ve got my trusty coffee to keep me energised through those long study sessions. As I tackle these subjects, I’ve also started rewatching Orange Is the New Black. Piper Chapman can be insufferable at times, but the show is such a great comfort along with some delicious comfort food! Oh, and I also got an industrial piercing on my birthday (piece of cake)!

Birthday Dinner
When I think about my past birthdays, I realize that turning 13 and 16 at boarding school didn’t quite give me the celebrations I had hoped for. This year, however, felt different and special. I went all out in preparation, buying an outfit, getting my nails done, and having my hair styled and some henna to celebrate. I love being a woman.
My family came up from London to join the celebration, and we had the most amazing dinner at The Ivy. We ate a feast and we capped off the night at a hotel, watching the Brits and enjoying my tiramisu cake together. Surrounded by loved ones, I felt truly grateful and celebrated.

18

This month has truly been a whirlwind of change and celebration. From starting my loc journey inspired by my grandma to the excitement of my 18th birthday, each moment has been a step toward embracing who I am. I’m looking forward to what the future holds and the adventures that await. Here’s to more growth, laughter, and unforgettable memories!
